My question was about group work. I wanted to know how teachers can use Vygotsky’s theory to prevent disruptive behavior during collaborative activities. I read five sources and learned a lot about my question.

According to Geria et al. (2025a), teachers need to plan how they form groups. Using tools like colored cards puts students into groups the right way so they stay focused and do not disrupt others (p. 97). Geria et al. (2025b) also found that scaffolding keeps students busy with their tasks. When teachers give small tasks and help students when they get stuck, students will join in more and will not misbehave (p. 719).

Masood et al. (2024) found that building trusting relationships with students and using group work stops problems before they start (p. 492). Also, Garcia et al. (2026) discovered that teaching social skills first helps students listen, take turns, and work together. This reduces conflicts and makes students feel included (pp. 7-8). According to Putra and Yanto (2025), when students are busy and engaged, they have less time to cause trouble (p. 9). This article also showed that good managing a classroom is not just about stopping disruptive behavior. It is about keeping students engaged.

But some researchers disagree. For example, Allan (2016) found that even in well-planned groups, students still complain and argue. She says teachers should use these moments to teach how they will solve their problems (p. 87). Donelan and Kear (2023) also found that online group work is very difficult because students are in different time zones and have technology problems. But they also say that if a teacher plans well and gets extra support, it will make it work (pp. 444, 446, 448).

Even with these challenges, I still believe group work is one of the best ways students can learn. Vygotsky was right that students learn when they talk and help each other. My job as a teacher in group work is to plan well and provide every student a role. I also need to teach social skills first and build a classroom where everyone feels they belong. When I do these things, students will be engaged, and learners will not have any disruptive behavior.
